Case study
01The problem
In aerial-platform rental the customer does not buy online — they ask whether a particular machine is free on particular dates. A catalogue of 280 machines described by working height, reach, capacity and drive therefore had to lead not to a cart but to a quote request that reaches sales with the full set of parameters.
02What I built
- A custom WordPress plugin running the machine catalogue, quote requests and lead capture — rather than bending a shop plugin around a process that is not a shop.
- Filtering by equipment type, drive, working height and manufacturer, so sales receive an already narrowed request.
- A child theme carrying the bespoke design without rebuilding the core at every update.
- A LiteSpeed server and server-side caching for the catalogue, which is the heaviest part of the site.
03What it does now
- A quote request arrives with the machine parameters attached, so sales do not start by working out what was meant.
- The 280-machine catalogue browses without waiting on page loads.
- The client's team adds machines themselves, with no developer involved.
04Why this stack
The plugin was written from scratch because no off-the-shelf one models rental — they all assume a sale and end at a cart. Bending one of those costs more than writing the right thing.
